The Benefits of Microneedling: A Scientifically Backed Approach to Skin Rejuvenation.

Microneedling has become one of the most sought-after skin rejuvenation treatments within medical aesthetics — and for good reason. Backed by clinical research and widely used by practitioners, microneedling offers a minimally invasive method of improving overall skin quality, texture, and collagen production with relatively little downtime.

At Face to Face, I use advanced microneedling techniques to support healthy skin regeneration and achieve natural, long-term improvements in skin health.

What Is Microneedling?

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, involves the use of fine sterile needles to create controlled micro-injuries within the skin. These tiny channels stimulate the body’s natural wound-healing response, triggering the production of collagen and elastin — two essential proteins responsible for maintaining skin firmness, elasticity, and structure.

As we age, collagen production naturally declines, contributing to fine lines, laxity, enlarged pores, and uneven skin texture. Microneedling works by encouraging the skin to repair itself in a controlled and medically guided way.

The Key Benefits of Microneedling

1. Improved Skin Texture and Tone

One of the primary benefits of microneedling is the improvement in overall skin texture. Patients often notice smoother, brighter, and more refined skin following a course of treatments.

Microneedling can help reduce:

  • Rough or uneven skin texture

  • Enlarged pores

  • Dullness

  • Mild pigmentation irregularities

  • Post-inflammatory marks

By stimulating epidermal turnover and collagen remodelling, the skin appears healthier and more uniform over time.

2. Reduction in Fine Lines and Early Signs of Ageing

Collagen depletion is a major contributor to visible ageing. Through controlled dermal stimulation, microneedling promotes neocollagenesis — the formation of new collagen fibres.

This can help soften:

  • Fine lines

  • Crepey skin

  • Early skin laxity

  • Perioral lines

Unlike treatments that freeze movement or add volume, microneedling focuses on improving the quality and integrity of the skin itself.

3. Acne Scar Improvement

Microneedling is widely recognised as an effective treatment for atrophic acne scarring. By encouraging collagen remodelling within the deeper layers of the skin, it can help improve the appearance of:

  • Rolling scars

  • Boxcar scars

  • Textural irregularities caused by previous acne

Although results vary depending on scar type and severity, many patients see progressive improvement after a course of treatments.

4. Enhanced Product Absorption

The temporary microchannels created during treatment can significantly improve the penetration of active skincare ingredients. This allows targeted serums and regenerative products to reach deeper layers of the skin more effectively.

For this reason, microneedling is often combined with medical-grade skincare or regenerative therapies to optimise results.

5. Suitable for Multiple Skin Concerns

Microneedling is a versatile treatment that can be tailored to a wide range of skin concerns and skin types. Common treatment areas include:

  • Face

  • Neck

  • Décolletage

  • Hands

  • Stretch marks on the body

It is suitable for both preventative and corrective treatment plans.

What to Expect After Treatment

Following microneedling, it is normal to experience temporary redness and mild sensitivity, similar to a light sunburn. Most patients recover within 24–72 hours depending on treatment intensity.

As collagen remodelling occurs gradually, results continue to improve over several weeks. For optimal outcomes, a course of treatments is typically recommended.

The Importance of Clinical Assessment

Although microneedling is considered a safe and effective procedure, appropriate assessment is essential. Treatment depth, technique, and aftercare should always be tailored to the individual patient, their skin condition, and medical history.

At Face to Face, every treatment begins with a thorough consultation to ensure a personalised and evidence-based approach to skin rejuvenation.

Face To Face Signature Microneedling Treatment

Our Signature Microneedling Treatment

At Face to Face, I offer a signature advanced microneedling treatment designed to maximise skin rejuvenation whilst supporting optimal skin recovery. This bespoke protocol combines a professional light chemical peel, advanced microneedling using the new Axion device by Mesoestetic, and a restorative Clinicare medical-grade sheet mask for home use following treatment.

The initial chemical peel helps to gently exfoliate the skin which enhances overall skin permeability prior to microneedling. I then perform collagen induction therapy using the Axion device by Mesoestetic — an advanced digital microneedling system that allows precise depth control and consistent treatment delivery. If you would prefer, I can use a topical anaesthetic cream first to minimise discomfort.

This combination approach helps to stimulate collagen synthesis, improve skin texture, refine pores, and enhance overall skin luminosity whilst supporting deeper penetration of active ingredients.

To optimise recovery and prolong results, the take home hydrating sheet mask helps to reduce transient redness, support the skin barrier, and enhance post-procedure hydration during the healing phase.

My signature treatment is particularly popular for patients seeking comprehensive skin rejuvenation with minimal downtime and clinically led results.

Final Thoughts

Microneedling remains one of the most effective non-surgical treatments for improving overall skin quality and is one of my favourite treatments to perform.

By stimulating the skin’s own regenerative processes, it offers natural-looking results with minimal downtime and long-term benefits for skin health.

Whether your concern is ageing, acne scarring, pigmentation, or general skin rejuvenation, microneedling can form an excellent part of a comprehensive treatment plan.
